From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a wide array of characters, and a thrilling plot including angels, demons, and dark forces increasing in strength within the city.
Note: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure lie ahead.
The Warrior Group Revealed
The third episode ended with a major cliffhanger and presented the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to begin their own adventure, distinct from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team consists of Teor (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be impossible.
That’s why, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before splitting into three distinct groups: Fighters, Planners, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where peaceful solutions are scarce.
At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look mismatched, but the events of episode 3 show why these five characters are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
First, the group has a clear idea where to proceed after a intense first encounter with the antagonists.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose passing initiated the story’s plot—manipulated the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting the rogue, and swiping all the enchanted items to sell off.
The traitor then settled his liabilities and fled to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each member has a individual motive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
- The adventurer is familiar with the northern area and cautions that it is a hostile location.
- The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their status as key figures in the influential clan could help the party access places they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, Teor swore a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the authorities that control the city for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are known criminals.
- Tyranny and The healer turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- Teor is wanted dead by the clan.
This leaves them no alternative but to travel to the remote area in pursuit of Casimir.
Upcoming Developments
According to the recent installment’s post-show segment, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the remaining eight participants to assemble the Questers and Planners groups.
Viewers can expect discovering which adventurers will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, available to watch on next week.
